Warren Lane Quarry before clearance
Sunday 6th September 2015
Warren Lane Quarry complements the features shown in the Barnt Green Road Quarry, but has been unavailable for conservation work since it became an EHT designated ‘Champions’ site, in 2011. This was because it was being used as a wood yard, as well as being the depot for the Park Rangers. With changed usage, clearance work can now go ahead, and this was our first session here. Like BGRQ, it is entirely within the Lickey Quartzite formation but here there is an excellent exposure of the western limb of the Lickey Hills anticline.
Three of us were there to tackle the vegetation on this first clearance session, and Alan was keen to clear a small section which seems to show some slipping, possibly along one of the clay layers. ‘Before’ and ‘after’ photos show how much we achieved but there’s lots more to do at this site, and we’re hoping to arrange further sessions in the future.
… and after a hard day’s work!
