A visit by Malvern U3A mapping group
Six members of the Malvern U3A mapping group visited Loxter Ashbed Quarry last month, led by Alan Hughes. Spurning the information on the two boards, they quickly go to work with clinometers to check out the dips on different parts of the structure, as well as checking that it was indeed limestone.
A discussion on the structure within the quarry and of the whole area west of the Malvern Hills followed. This brought into focus the fact that although the structure of the quarry is superficially simple, it gets more complex the harder you look!
We were pleased to find that despite some weathering since the last visit, the fossils on the boulder are still visible and the trilobite has not been eroded away.
