Rubery Road Cutting Update
Today’s clearance session was aimed at ensuring that last year’s progress was not lost to the insidious encroachment of the geologist’s nemesis…plant life. Weeding, bramble-bashing and litter collection maintained the visibility of the exposure, and pressure washing of one section made it easier to trace the unconformity with greater confidence and accuracy. The photo has been digitally enhanced to provide greater contrast between the Ordovician Lickey Quartzite and the overlying Silurian Rubery Sandstone. The sub-horizontal boundary between red rock and black staining records the upper limit of the pressure washed section.
